This Safely Access the Rail Corridor (SARC) training course provides participants with the knowledge, training and skills to effectively work safely in and around the rail corridor. It was previously known as the Rail Industry Safety Induction (RISI). This unit of competency involves the skills and knowledge required to enter the rail corridor that meets the legislated rail safety requirements.

It provides participants with the appropriate skills and knowledge needed to become compliant. This also includes the Queensland Acts and Regulations and the nationally approved compliance codes and/or guidelines.

The program involves the application of access provider rules, procedures and protocols for rail safety. Training will include practical observation and demonstration at an actual Rail Corridor. A simulated scenario is utilised where practical is not possible.

The Safely Access the Rail Corridor (SARC) course includes key elements of learning such as;

  • Taking appropriate safety precautions to access the rail corridor
  • Taking appropriate safety precautions to access the danger zone
  • Taking the appropriate action in an emergency situation

Before commencement of each course, the trainer will assess participants language, literacy and numeracy levels.  This will help trainers identify learners who need assistance and support and at the same time the suitability and appropriateness to enrol and complete a course.
